Illegal Items

Items which are unlawful for any person to possess within the community as defined by the laws of the state of Washington; controlled substances, or any weapon, firearm, or any instrument which, if used, could produce serious bodily injury to another.

Immediate Family

An Incarcerated individual's children, stepchildren, grandchildren, great grandchildren, parents, stepparents, grandparents, great grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles, and a person legally married to or in a state registered domestic partnership with an incarcerated individual. "Immediate family" includes the immediate family of an incarcerated individual who was adopted as a child or an adult, but does not include an incarcerated individual adopted by another incarcerated individual (or the immediate family of the adopted or adopting individual).

Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health (IDLH)

Any atmosphere that poses an immediate hazard to life or produces immediate irreversible debilitating effects on health.

Inclusion

Creating an environment where everyone can be themselves, feel that they are able to contribute their views, and that these views will be valued. For example: Equality is getting invited to the room, diversity is getting a seat at the table, equity is having what you need to get into the room and to the table, and inclusion is sharing your views and being seen and heard while at the table.

Indigent

An incarcerated individual who has less than a $25 balance of disposable income in any of the individual's trust fund accounts on the day a request is made to use funds and during the 30 days previous to the request.

Indirect Use

The use of a system or device through another person, device, or by proxy. Indirect use or access includes, but not limited to:

1. Processing an information request for a person or entity not authorized to access the information,
2. Letting an unauthorized person view data on a Department information system,
3. Allowing an unauthorized person or entity to direct the actions of a user on a Department information system,
4. Allowing an unauthorized person to access a Department information system for, or in place of, an authorized user, and
5. Connecting an unauthorized device to an authorized device to access a Department information system.

Individual's Expense

Funds must be in an incarcerated individual's facility account and must pay for the goods or services before the individual may receive them. The credit of the state will only be given or loaned to an individual as authorized by law or policy.

Information Technology System

Any electronic equipment controlled by a central processing unit (CPU), including desktop and laptop computers, smartphones, and tablets, or set of servers for collecting, creating, storing, processing, and distributing information, including hardware and software, system users, and data.

Informed Consent

The documented agreement by a patient to a treatment, examination, or procedure after the patient receives the material facts about the nature, consequences, and risks of the proposed treatment, examination, or procedure and the alternatives to it.

Injury

A sudden and tangible happening of a traumatic nature, producing an immediate prompt result, and occurring from without, and such physical conditions as result per RCW 51.08.100.

Institutional Employer

Correctional and pretrial detention facilities; state facilities for persons who are mentally ill, disabled or retarded, or chronically ill or handicapped; residential care or treatment facilities for juveniles; and facilities that provide skilled nursing, intermediate or long-term care, or custodial or residential care.

Intellectual Disability

A disability characterized by significant limitations both in intellectual functioning (general mental capacity such as reasoning, learning, problem solving) and in adaptive behavior, which covers a range of everyday social and practical skills. This disability originates before the age of 18.

Intersex

A general term used for a variety of situations in which a person has reproductive or sexual anatomy that doesn't fit the boxes of "female" or "male".

Intervention

A variety of services provided to an individual that meet an assessed need (e.g., medical treatment, evidence-based core programs, life skills training, education/work programs, activities).
