Meet Tim Lang

Secretary Tim Lang

Tim Lang was appointed Secretary of the Washington State Department of Corrections (DOC) by Governor-elect Bob Ferguson on December 3, 2024.

Prior to his appointment as Secretary of Corrections, Lang served for 16 years working on corrections issues with the Attorney General’s office as the department’s chief legal counsel and head of the Attorney General’s Corrections Division.

As chief legal counsel to DOC, Lang has been instrumental in addressing legal issues and implementing reforms that promote rehabilitation and reduce recidivism. Lang has an extensive background in legal matters concerning corrections as well as a deep understanding of the challenges that face DOC’s facilities.

Lang received his B.A. in Public Administration and Economics from the University of Colorado and earned his J.D. from the Northwestern School of Law at Lewis and Clark College in Portland.
