PRESS RELEASE: JC Miller Named Superintendent at Larch Corrections Center

TUMWATER – James “JC” Miller, Jr. has been appointed by Assistant Secretary Robert Herzog as the superintendent of Larch Corrections Center in Yacolt, Wash. effective Saturday, February 1, 2020. Miller has approximately 27 years of experience within the Washington Department of Corrections.
“JC has all of the needed talents and energy to continue moving Larch Corrections Center forward,” stated Assistant Secretary Herzog. “JC’s relationship with local law enforcement, government, advocates and other criminal justice partners positions him well to communicate agency priorities with external stakeholders. I know that he’ll be able to continue working with staff to positively engage incarcerated individuals in reentry preparation and transitional resource planning.”
Miller began his correctional career in 1993 as a correctional officer at the Washington State Penitentiary. He promoted to correctional sergeant at Airway Heights Corrections Center the following year and became part of their Emergency Response Team. He has held a variety of positions including classification counselor, correctional unit supervisor, facility monitor, correctional captain and correctional program manager at various state correctional facilities across the state. Miller has also served as a facilitator for Supervision and Leadership training.
He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice in 2005 from Bellevue University.
Miller takes over from Lisa Flynn, who has accepted the position of correctional program administrator at the headquarters of the Washington Department of Corrections in Tumwater, Wash.
