TUMWATER – Dennis Tabb has been appointed by Assistant Secretary Robert Herzog as the superintendent of Mission Creek Corrections Center for Women in Belfair, Wash. effective Saturday, August 4, 2018. Tabb has 24 years of experience within the Washington Department of Corrections.

“Dennis has a great deal of knowledge regarding prison safety and security procedures,” stated Assistant Secretary Herzog. “He has been instrumental in the implementation of various programs, such as Moving On, Beyond Trauma, Parenting Inside Out, Bridges to Life, and others, that aid the population at Mission Creek. Dennis is passionate about working with incarcerated individuals and supporting them as they transition from incarceration to the community. His focus on the success of staff, encouraging their knowledge, skills and abilities, is of paramount importance to him.”

Tabb began his career at the department in June 1994, and has held a variety of positions including correctional officer and classification counselor at Monroe Correctional Complex, unit supervisor at McNeil Island Corrections Center, and correctional program manager and interim superintendent at Mission Creek. Among his areas of responsibility at Mission Creek are supporting volunteers, education contracts, and programming.

He is a veteran of the U.S. Army and earned his Associate of Arts degree in Business Management in May 1985 from Penn Foster College, and has extensive training in leadership practices.

Tabb takes over from Devon Schrum, who has accepted the position of director of the South Correctional Entity Regional (SCORE) Jail in Des Moines, Wash.
