PRESS RELEASE: Multi-Inmate Fight at Washington State Reformatory Unit of Monroe Correctional Complex

MONROE – The Monroe Correctional Complex has put the Washington State Reformatory Unit (WSRU) on lockdown after a multi-inmate fight this evening.
At approximately 6:00 pm, multiple inmates began fighting in the outdoor yard at the Washington State Reformatory Unit of Monroe Correctional Complex. No staff were injured and minor inmate injuries were reported. At this time, the cause of the incident is unknown.
WSRU will remain on lockdown while staff conduct an investigation. The other units of the Monroe Correctional Complex remain on normal operations.
WSRU is one of five facilities that are part of the Monroe Correctional Complex. The unit houses over 700 medium and minimum custody inmates. The total inmate population at Monroe is about 2,500 inmates making it the second-largest prison in the state.
